Exhibition Theme – “REFLECTION”

An initiative of the Australian Quilters Association, the ninth Australian Quilts in Public Places exhibition was a great success.

The theme for the AQIPP 2017 exhibition, “Reflection,” provided wide scope for interpretation leading to the creation of quilts of great diversity in subject matter, styles and techniques.

Two years in the planning, this exhibition attracted entries from around Australia. With a record number of quilts entered and a display quilt from each of the judges, Eileen Campbell and Jann Haggart this exhibition was a stunning display of the creativity, imagination and skill of textile artists around the country.

Whitehorse Artspace in Box Hill, Melbourne, is a light and spacious gallery and was the perfect venue to showcase these works. Attendances throughout the five weeks of the exhibition were excellent and much positive feedback was received from exhibitors and viewers alike.

The sponsors who generously donated awards were Brother International – major sponsor, Australian Quilters Association, Aurifil Thread, GJ’s Discount Fabrics, Kraftkolour, Rhino Glass Beads, Sewn and Quilted and Victorian Textiles.

Summer Dreaming by AQA group quilt

In keeping with the AQIPP exhibition’s aim of encouraging the hanging of quilts in public places a group quilt was made by members of the Australian Quilters Association Art Quilt Group for the “Reflection” exhibition.

This quilt “Summer Dreaming” was then donated to the Whitehorse Art Collection and will be hung in libraries in the municipality for all to enjoy.
